Racism existed LONG before America, first of all. Throughout history racism has been the cause of many plights, not just the black plight in America.
Jim crow laws were instituded to favor whites. Racism isnt institutionalized it however lead to the establishment of these horrible laws.
It seems all threads regaring race are turned into "bash the white race" threads by the same ppl who cry racism all the time. This is my 3rd time ive gone through this

There is no documented history of "racism" as we know it today before the Trans Atlantic slave trade.
There was slavery & Discrimination all over the world before then, but that was mostly based on Nationality, Ethnicity, and social status.

You argue against the validity of institutionalized racism, yet you validate it in the process

1. I never said otherwise.
2. But racism IS institutionalized. It's seeped into nearly every aspect of modern day society (at least in my country). Politics, education, sex, housing, money, ect. They've all been affected by racism and they all benefit White people at the expense of racial minorities.
3. Both sides seem to fail to understand the other side's point of view. Let's not act like it doesn't go both ways.

I think the word "race" has people confused. The definition has changed so much over time.

Im honestly done arguing. If you guys chose to believe racism only means anti-black then I dont know how to help you.
Racism can apply to every race period. If i went out today and decided to hate a white kid at school because hes white, thats racism, vice versa. Racism is racism not the phobia of the black race bye.

Because I can tell exactly what gender you are simply by reading your username?
Forgive my sexism.

I think I understand where all the difference of opinion is coming from now. All racism isn't created equal. Sure, I could say I hate White people. That's racism. But for White people, that's as far as racism goes.
An example would be stereotypes about White women vs. Black men. White women are stereotyped to like Starbucks. Black men are stereotypes to be criminals. One of those stereotypes could potentially get a person killed/thrown in jail unfairly. There's a huge difference between racism against Whites and racism against non-Whites.

Nobody is denying anyone can be discriminated against, but the kind of racism that Gillap was trying to get across is INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM. We live in a society that is built off of foundations of white supremacy. Just because laws have changed on the surface, doesn't mean hundreds of years of slavery, murder, rape, and social conditioning has been rectified or undone. For example, even the way standardized testing that determine college admissions is written is inherently biased. It is written by White males for White males. These underlying were put in place to suppress minorities, which means minorities have to work 10x just to get half as far.
It's white privilege that keeps and ensures Whites to stay ahead. Regardless of whether a white person is racist or not, they benefit from white privilege by default. As a minority, I may more educated, qualified, and intelligent than a white person, but statistically I am paid less because of my race and am more likely to get passed up from a position over a white person, even if they are less qualified.

The spread of awareness is VERY useful and great things have come about because of it. People are just taking it too far and making a mockery of it.

It's actually sad reading this topic and seeing people [who also disapprove of racism] fighting with others for no reason other than they aren't a minority/their own race, which IS racist in itself. Believing/Ranking a certain race's opinion lower than yours because of their race is racist. So everyone saying, "You would think that, you're white" - you're being the very thing you hate/are writing paragraphs against. So you can go on Tumblr and post all you want, but at the end of the day, you're not helping anything. You're only amplifying the negativity, just from a different perspective is all. Like....

Tbf he/she's right, but it wasn't racism (Irish isn't a race ) so this is all off topic. The Irish were treated as poorly as black people though. They were categorised the same as them. This was a common sight in England in the 60's

But like I said, that's anti-Irish and more xenophobic/prejudice if anything, so it has 0 to do with racism.
