She was aiming for a Beatles/Karen Carpenter sound. More classic songs where you hear the tone and emotion in the lyrics.
I remember when I first heard IIWAB and her description of what her album sounded like, I wasn't expecting these big and bombastic vocals like on her debut album B'day.
