Nor am I saying this isn't offensive/blasphemous - I'm just trying to get a feel for how serious this actually is or what it's like relative to a culture I know better.

I agree its something stupid but i posted this bc everyone here (on a removed thread) and on twitter and basically everywhere is flipping **** thinking she did something wrong. so i was just trying to clarify

There is a difference between someone wearing a crucifix, which is pretty common, and someone wearing the name "Allah", which is not common. Nobody wears necklaces with the name "Allah" here. Plus, he happened to wear the necklace in an Ancient Egyptian setting where there was no Islam at the time, which shows that she included the name "Allah" in the video and burned it for absolutely no coherent reason. This is offensive.

She did nothing wrong. People are just exaggerating the situation as usual.

It's tacky and blasphemous.

Now y'all know damn well the director of the video found a necklace with Arabic writing on it, and thought it was cute -- not knowing it had the word Allah on it. There should have been more research in that respect, but it was completely harmless. It's not as if Katy made a big spectacle out of burning the necklace to cause controversy ( ), she instead turned the man who happened to be wearing the necklace to dust.
And it's funny how a certain fanbase is always going on and on in those religious threads saying that religion is stupid and a higher power doesn't exist, yet they're the only ones acting offended over this "religious blasphemy"

The reach in some of these comments, just because a white person has POC in the background of their videos does not make them a racist.
Also, it may be tacky and distasteful, the Egyptian theme isn't offence to anyone...that's alive. Ancient Egypt has died out, it's like saying that dressing up like Zeus is offence to Greek people as if those beliefs are still practiced
The Allah thing was wrong. I don't believe that she intentionally meant to be nasty or hateful, I think she just sees these things and decides to use them without actually taking the time to do her research first. Regardless, what she did was offensive and wrong and I strongly believe that she should accept what she did was wrong and apologize.

Except she shouldn't even be the one apologizing. The director/costume designers should. People are taking it out on her when she had nothing to do with it. That's the only part I don't understand. All the other backlash can be justified as being insensitive.

The fact that they were too ignorant to know what it meant just makes it worse.

To clarify...Nubia was not too far from egypt...if you really sit around and think they didn't intermix is stupid. I'm more than sure there was "black" blood in egypt back then...sure the arabs ransacked and took over modern egypt and dominated, as much in of north africa, so many egyptians today look more "arab" than "black" (Notice my quotations) but the ancient world from egypt to rome had mix of black. Don't let european historians whiten up all the imagery for you. Cleopatra was not serving you Elizabeth Taylor like Hollywood would make us believe.
And the famous Cleopatra was not even the first one, there were many before her, she was just the last ruler before Greece/Rome took over. Her predecessors they say had black blood. More mixed race if you will.

No one knows what she was because no one has true record of what her mother was. Yes she came from the Ptolemy dynasty (Who weren't even real egyptians from the original pharoah bloodline, but kust outside imperialist who took over). Some say her mother was black, and a concubine but no one knows for sure. But with history we do know europeans like to make figures look more white than ethnic, so my guess is she was greek and white, but just had more keen features so they portray her as white.

Not you making that petty bling as a big deal. Lol. That necklace could mean anything though...
For muslim it says, "Allah" but for others who can't read and write Arabic, it's just a bling.
It's just like the holy water, it's holy to us Christians, but to those who don't practice Christianity it is just a mere water...
Just be thankful that the video was already edited to clear your mind... unless you want the whole video to be taken down because you can't handle the success of Dark Horse...

except she was not white people made her features look white
majority of the people in egypt at the time were nubian or of arabic descent so assuming she's white because some sculpture of her is is just ignorant

And as Katycats claim, she doesn't burn the man wearing that necklace, she turns him into sand because the man didn't satisfy her.
|
It's true, I just remembered studying a topic about this in religion class
It applies to paper, most commonly, such as flyers and handouts. If they have the word "God" or "Allah" or anything of that significance, the only way you're religiously allowed to get rid of it is by burning it.

That post of mine was from a few days ago before she edited the video. Sit.
