We really don't know if it was her or her record label who lied. There's really only so much freedom a pop artist has with her work. The record label probably didn't want her to take any chances
She said she let the light in though. Prism is about dofferent colors, she already had a serious tone with Uncle so I think she's really showing multiple tones this era!
But why would she troll about her musical direction?
Because it helped her create hype. It's not like she actually said the music was dark. She just released those videos, and everyone came to that conclusion because they just wouldn't let go of a joke she once made. She most likely changed her mind about the dark direction of the album after she met John, and I'm glad she did it. There's nothing worse and faker than faking anger.
but yeah I wanted it tbh. But oh well maybe with the next album.
