I can answer that.
Cyndi just faded, no backlash. The work became less compelling. Nobody hated her or anything like that.
There is no GaGa backlash. She has not presented anything compelling enough for a general audience. Including perf last night with the eyes, strange arm movements again and bad elocution throughout. Hence ipod. Bad elocution throughout the album. Had to watch Manicure lyric video to understand the lyrics. She is pushing the audience away.
Donna Summer also presented not compelling work and kind of faded. But still performed all over the place. The homophobia wasn't really a big deal, unless you were gay. But I know both gay men and women who went to her concerts until she stopped performing.
