Kanye isn't the current king though. Yeezus underperformed and his public reception is way down. He hasn't had a truly popular song in years: not even in the charts sense, but impact sense.

I agree 808s caused a significant shift though.

Since when was his public reception up? He commands attention b/c he's polarizing. People said 808s was an underperformance too then 2 years later every rapper was singing. Yeezus' impact is still yet to be determined.
