Yes, because the only cool thing about the VMA performance was the blood, which was nothing more than a gimmick, which everyone supposedly hates now. The AMA performance was non-stop action from start to finish with a great narrative and no gimmicks other than her vocal talent.
Oh god no. I guess some people think the only cool thing about the performance was the blood but what made the performance cool was the set, the reprise intro, the hanging, etc. She once said Paparazzi was baroque pop and that description carried with the styling of her hair and with the set. Her vocals for the most part were pretty on point too. The blood was just a sideline that everyone latched onto because people do that and it was meant to be a means of water cooler conversation which it was. But thats not what ultimately made the performance memorable. At the end of the day that performance was cool, she made a statement, it fit perfectly with the song, I mean...
Whereas the AMA peformance was theatrical, ill give you that, but there was such a disconnect with the song first of all. It was TOTALLY gimmicky as well I mean how could you even say it wasn't, she pulled a JFK/Marilyn scenario with an oval office set I mean come on. She didn't even look that great and the choreo was totally off and ridiculous.
Well hopefully you never have to deal with any type of depression 'cause then you'll see just how hard it is. It's strange that so many fans seem to not care about her personal well being over things such as "being strong". When you're depressed, you're depressed, and she is clearly depressed right now. Depression sucks, I will tell you first hand, so right now all I care about is her getting better.
Oh, I see. I think the Applause makeup was a visual statement. I love how it started off full and then slowly faded as the single era went on.
I think she said that the point was to have a different look every day so that we can begin to understand how she dresses when she feels certain ways. She wants us to be like, "today she's wearing that because she feels sad, happy, excited". But at the same time, we've only gotten one video so maybe more statements are to come!

I think her depression is kinda over as hinted at her last LM post about depression. But she still is frustrated at how things went down for sure.
I understand that she is all about today I'll wear this or that but I just love when you see a performance, an image and you can clearly tell "oh this was during Applause era". I know she doesn't like the word "era" but its easier to identify.
The Paparazzi VMA performance was non stop aciton too with a great narrative too! The fame killed her and the paparazzi even took pics right then!

Gaga said DWUW is about how the media talks about her and Marilyn is the perfect subject of that. Marilyn's entire image was created by the media. She was a drug-addicted woman who had sex with everyone, but because of how the media portrays her people see her as some iconic Hollywood darling. That is literally what DWUW is all about.
Gaga's theme for Paparazzi was Princess Diana dying. She wanted to have a car crash onto the set but MTV wouldn't let her so she did the chandelier instead. Just like with JFK and Marilyn, it was predictable and cliche as all hell. Gaga's vocals were rocky and aided by live pitch correction, her choreo was messy at best, and she didn't look all that good either.
Had Gaga delivered a performance like that now, she'd be torn to shreds.
Speaking of performances, however.
Absolutely amazing. I remember how every BTW performance got "meh" reactions from the fanbase but now that we look back we realize how amazing a lot of them were.
