Gwen, Nelly, and Fergie were cute and fun but not one of them could perform well and none of them were huge superstars I mean, I guess not much has changed b/c Katy, Rih, and Gaga can't perform well either but atleast they have more star power.
The superstar explosion in the late 90s / early 00s was and evidently still is everything. Beyonce, JT, Pink, and Eminem are still slaying commercially. And obvi Legend X and JLegend will be back this year.
I get she's getting older, but she couldn't squeeze out LAMB part 3 in like 2010 or something?
Don't you remember Gwen Stefani's main issue? She has a hard time writing songs by herself. She's not a "natural" lyricist. She already stated it was "torture" writing the legendary "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" without her band (even her first single "What You Waiting For?" is about the writer's block). Gwen Stefani isn't a Rihanna-type of artist, where other people write her songs so she can release an album every year. Artists who have to write their own albums -- or at least heavily involved in the writing process of their own album -- can't release every year like that, it takes at least two, if their lucky. Gwen doesn't like to write without her No Doubt bandmates, it's that simple. We won't be seeing a "L.A.M.B.: Part III" anytime soon, if at all.
I agree that Rihanna is not going to be a legend - she doesn't care enough about music itself.
But at this point, Rihanna isn't gonna be forgotten that easily either. Her "lil singles" define a generation or two. All these huge hits are NOT forgotten.
Legends are supposed to be good at their craft but Rihanna will be the first to become legend due solely to sales.
So many people have questioned Mariah's "legendary status," despite standing the test of time and getting hit after hit, so it won't be that easy for her.
Is Rihanna really praised at all? Yeah, a few compliments here and there, but has she ever been an Aretha, Madonna or Joni Mitchell when it comes to acclaim and adoration?
I know. Hence why I said most of her songs will have been forgotten as time goes on.
Out of all of her songs, WFL will probably be remembered, and Umbrella. Hell I can barely recall most of her songs from past years to now. Take A Bow will not be remembered. Rude Boy is forgotten. S&M was number one, no one talks about it. It can go on and on with her because, as you said, she doesn't care about the music. Only the fame and status the music brings her.
Mariah has 18 #1's. but most people only remember 8 or 9
She gains #1s and sells faster than Rihanna. Prism is 2 mil WW already and I'm sure Roar will outsell all the singles from Unapologetic (that's if it hasn't already). If she hopped on features it'd be a wrap.
Katy's singles, on average, sell FAR more than Rihanna's do. She's already sold 85M singles with just 15 singles. By the end of the PRISM era, she will be passed 100M singles globally and close to 15M albums globally.
But to compare Rihanna and Katy is a bit odd, because their music is nothing alike.
Yeah, but in reality, average numbers kind of like...don't matter. If you consistently put massive smashes on the table, your flops are irrelevant.
Celine says hello. She has the vocals, but no artistry.
Celine can SING. That is her craft.
Madonna can PERFORM. Britney when she was alive could PERFORM.
Rihanna can't do sh*t. Not an artist and not a performer. She doesnt even have 1 iconic moment (video/performance/outfit) to her name yet. That's why I'm saying I believe she'll be the first person to become legend solely due to (mostly digital) sales. She's the face of the digital age.
Legends are supposed to be good at their craft but Rihanna will be the first to become legend due solely to sales.
I'm always tempted to say Rihanna's run of hit after hit typifying the sound of an era reminds me of Donna Summer minus the cultural impact, vocals, and creative involvement.
Katy might pressure Rihanna for #1 hits in the US in the next few years, but I don't think she's going to challenge her in #1 hits, singles sales, or album sales in the long run.
Katy is already on that ass as we speak, all of Katys hits are bigger than Rihannas.
Katy has sold like 30 million singles from 5 releases.

...Vin
There are co-writers all through LAMB, including her bandmates so I really don't see what the problem is
