i think she may just not have had enough time for these past few performances (xfactor and youtube)
i mean she absolutely slayedddd swinefest, but she had plenty of time to plan and rehearse.. she basically took like 2+ weeks dedicated to just that. lately with all the releases she probably hasnt had too much time to devote to performances

I feel like Gaga was legitimately happy when she recorded Gypsy because her voice sounds so happy and the up-beat vibe is so infectious I can't help but smile while chanting
" I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm a gypsy gypsy gypsy I'm "

His ****ing obsession to the point that he knows all the popular monsters

Let me wait for someone to rip the iTunes stream. I need "Sexxx Dreams" without the muddled bass.

I agree. Swinefest was notably much better in quality in terms of performing compared to her tv performances
The VMA performance was good too because like you said, she had a lot of rehearsal time.
Her performance skills substantially decreased during the btwball i feel, and she has yet to get back into the groove except for swinefest, but I have confidence she'll be slaying us with more performances in the future.

I feel like we need to have a legitimate, serious discussion about this album. I want to have a full explanation of why some of y'all aren't as impressed by it, because I just don't understand.

I feel the same way.
It's the only song on ARTPOP that makes me cry, smile and get up and dance all at the same time.

The bridge of Shitsy is the best part, then right after she goes and ruins it with "I'mimimimimimim a gypsypgpypgpypypyyppssspypypy imimimimimimmi a gypspspspyypy" like what kinda lazy ass songwriting!?
This is supposed to be an emotional ballad-type thing, you can't just go and repeat the title and think you're delivering Poker Face-sized slayage

Mmk, Retro. Serious talk.
In all seriousness, I really do like most of it. Most of the album are 8-10s, out of 10, that is. I'm impressed, because she led me to believe this era would be a trainwreck by the lead single, the cover, and how she's handled it.
My only quarrels, song-wise, are with "Applause", "Fashion!", "Dope" and "Do What U Want".
"Do What U Want", for me, is a 6/10, because it's just plain boring. I found it amazing when I first heard it because I was excited for new Gaga music. In the end, it's just... Nothing super special. It could be easily done by someone else.
"Dope" was messed up in general. "I Wanna Be With U" wasn't exactly amazing, either, but it was definitely better than the final product. "Dope" has probably the worst vocals she's had in a studio recording to date. It also got ruined by the overproduction... For it, anyway. It should've stayed with just the piano. Rick Rubin messed that one up.
"Applause" is stupid. Her writing is at a low point, here. The verse are atrocious, also ruined by her vocals. The instrumental sounds clownish; I legitimately could imagine it being played during a circus when the clowns come up. The chorus is stellar, though, but it gets dragged down horribly by the verses. I think she just made a fool of herself with it, and it was an awful mistake on her part by releasing it as the lead single since there were better choices on the album ("Gypsy" and "G.U.Y.", specifically).
"Fashion!" is her worst song to date. It's a lame attempt by will.i.am and David Guetta, with a recycled beat from the 1970's. I don't understand any praise it gets. The lyrics aren't impressive, either. The last 30 seconds are deafeningly awful.
That said, the rest of the album is nearly PERFECT.
I probably dragged a little too hard, but whatever. That's just how I feel.

i wonder if anyone else has as much trouble as i do in ranking my fav songs from the album. every time i put one song above the other, the one below snatches its wig. the struggle

Maybe they cut her budget? Idk nah I doubt that actually but the only amazing performance was the VMA and that wasn't shocking or anything it was just good. Swinefest was good

I think that part makes the song. Without it it wouldn't be the same. It defines the song.

honestly, lets.
for me, swine and manicure are the worst songs on the album. Manicure's production, lyrics, vocals, arrangements, beats...literally everything sounds so juvenile and amateur--it's such a huge regression from her previous work.
Swine is lyrically problematic, and aside from that, LITERALLY hurts my ears. The beat is too hard.
jewels and drugs could've slayed, but it needed one less rapper and more gaga.
Sex dreams was ruined with the changes.
