That scene plus the earlier scene she had where she was going into town and asked Carl what he wanted her to bring back, and they go off on a little brother/sister tangent made me think she had a child/children before. Kween Michonne is absolutely killing me this season and without any action sequences...

It's kind of an unnecessary amount of pain.They could've just used a gun.Also they can't be sure burning is enough they could still come back if the brain is still intact right?

Maybe Michonne lost her son in the city when everyone was going spastic and she reunites with him at the end of the season
