What is this equation equals to?

I remember doing this stuff but I could never get it right

|2x-1| - |x+6| equals 2x+1 - x+6 (absolute value makes everything inside positive), so your answer is x-5.

You can't solve an equation if you not = it to another one (or number)

What is this witchcraft?

|2x-1| - |x+6|= 1-2x- (-x-6)
=1-2x+x+6
=7-x

I am not sure with the answer though. It is supposed to be that way since every sign changes in absolute value. Maybe some sistrens in this thread can help.

|2x-1| - |x+6| = 3
| 2x - 1 - x - 6| = 3
|x - 7| = 3
x = 10

it equals 3
