I think the problem is not the theme of those songs, it is the production, vocal producton & overall dated/****** sound. I mean no one is here for a pop song that tries too hard to be pop-rock but fails.
Also, HTNGU & RocknRoll ARE mid-tempos. Radios would pay dust to her ballad even more than to those two songs.

If anything, rhytmic melodic uptempo can do the wonders. At this point even WTH-sized single would be acceptable.
