Avicii's 'Wake Me Up' got to #8 on iTunes on pre-orders, and ended up selling 266,000 in the first week.
Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' got to #11 on iTunes on pre-orders, and ended up selling 190,000 in the first week.
'Roar' is at #15 so based on the sales above she should manage between 140,000 and 150,000 sales first week in my opinon.
In terms of 'Roar' reaching platinum, it could be a good idea to compare 'Roar' with Naughty Boy's 'La La La'. 'La La La' sold 145,000 in the first week (which is what I am expecting 'Roar' to achieve) and went platinum (sold over 600,000) after 6 weeks on the chart. So 'Roar' will probably go platinum in a similar amount of time.
Of course, these are all just predictions based on what has happened in that past, but it gives us an idea of what may happen!

interesting
seems like it's harder to go multi platinum in the UK

Round 3:
Proving her stay in the pop music world, she gave us another summer jam.
Round 4:
What is now one of her signature hits, it has also become her best-selling single to date (6.3 million copies).
Round 5:
Perry lands her 5th #1 and shows us how to fall in love with someone out of the ordinary.
Round 6:
The historic 5th #1 from Teenage Dream (6th overall in her carer) solidified her name in pop history.
Round 7:
Her first #1 debut, due to a fiery performance at the 2012 Grammys, earned Perry her 7th #1 hit in just under 4 years.
Round 8 (?):
Back with a vengeance and a new attitude, she's once again proving why she's a champion.

Yay, that's cute umich
I hope that Katy's gonna reach the top and Roar will make her a champion again

Yeah, to get 2x Platinum you need to be like one of the 30 biggest singles of all time.
Only 137 songs have sold more than 1 million, you need 1.2 Million to be 2x Platinum, and looking at the list they didn't seem to award 2x Platinum before the late 90s and there's still quite a few songs from recent times that haven't been awarded it despite having the sales so there's very few songs that actually have it.

i think they should really decrease the platinum stat to 500k or 300k like they did with the albums imo

Interesting. I forgot about half of these songs, and yet they were #1.
The meaning and value of a #1 song has really gone down. This reminds me of the fact that iconic songs like "Oops! I Did It Again" and "Toxic" didn't go #1, while songs nobody remembers like "3" hit #1 easy.
Times are changing. #1 songs mean little nowadays.

What about #1 singles that had longevity, sold 4 or 5M and had 150M+ views on VEVO?

Guys, where is the thread where people said Roar would not have any longevity and that it would have a CR/sales ala Part of Me?

Unconditional will be Titanic themed. I can feel it.
Actually, you know what would be a perfect way to end this era? After all her singles are out and every one is a little movie of some sorts, she closes it by putting her star on the Walk of Fame.

The poster reminds me of Lana's poster. Not that she copied, but it's a cool trend, I hope it continues!
