I'd heard that ages back with BTW, but let's be real - if every monster in the US could do that, its sales would have been even more astronomical.
And yes, you can buy physical copies each separately, one disc per transaction! Just not in bulk.

Let me get into it.

In order to create an account at iTunes US, you need an US address. Since I don't live there, I used the adress of the hotel I stayed in 2008 in Orlando.
However, you won't be able to use your credit card in the store unless it is a US credit card, linked to an US adress. That's why I only use gift cards to fill my account - And that's also why I never gifted anyone, because you can't gift people with gift cards credit.

I should also point out, that buying music in bulk be it physical or digital counts as one purchase. So don't go to the store and buy 10 copies with one purchase.
|
I'll keep that in mind.

Oh, physical copies I know, you just need a different receipt.
I was talking about iTunes digital sales, I genuinely believe you could gift a few people and those sales would count as more than one copy up until some limit - I thought it was 5 people, actually.

Buy "All Eyes on Me" (that's probably not even a title but w/e) once on iTunes, once on Amazon, and then 50 separate times physically.

This is a bit confusing. So you don't need an account for a gift card but you need a US address?
C'mon gerls. Up your strategies. We only have 25 days left.

That's what the top of my post was addressed to - I think that was just an unfortunate rumor.
Of course, if anyone we knew had a Nielsen subscription they could totally test that theory.

You can always have someone in the US with PayPal buy things for you and then send them money.

You do need an account.
But if you don't have a US credit card, you can't buy using a credit card - So, the only option is to use the gift cards. You can buy those everywhere online, even on eBay.

I wonder if Bill Werde knows anything about that? We could ask him now.

You heard what he said, Miggie.
Ignore the "and then send them money" part though.

Wait, I thought there was a source that said if Monsters hadn't been gifting "Applause" it only would have sold 170k. Lemme go find it.

So you're saying you can live in the UK and still have a US account as long as you use an American address and any gift card, instead? I'm processesing this a little bit better.

I've never seen any artist so desperate to inflate their numbers," the rep tells us.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe they stole that quote. I can't find the original source.
