It's no different than watching the official music video, or the audio/lyrics video. She did this with BTW, you could stream the song completely through her website when it was released.

Great idea but who would really download an app to stream one song, isolated from the rest of their music? Only the hardest of hardcore fans, and they will already have bought the song.

I'm not so sure about that. Unless the stream counts towards Hot 100 charting in any way. Which I can't see feasible. We'll find out in November .

I think it's a great idea. It's basically just another promoting tool that she can use to promote her songs and make people hear them. We don't know what other thing you'll be able to do through the app besides streaming, since we'll only be getting the "beta" version of the app for Applause. I don't know, we'll see how good this app idea really is soon.
