UGH.
I finally got around to listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' latest album, 'Mosquito'. I don't understand what happened to them... 'It's Blitz!' was great. I mean, even their 'IS IS' EP was amazing. However, 'Mosquito' just got too weird. The most bearable songs are "Sacrilege", "Slave", "Buried Alive" and "Wedding Song". I mean, "Area 52" isn't too bad, and "Under the Earth" just teeters on listenable, but most of it is some really weird, trying-to-be-quirky-but-just-ending-up-freakish kind of stuff.
The title track, "Mosquito", is just some creepish thing that's sure to give someone who listens at the wrong time some nightmares. I mean, Karen O wrote it about her fear of mosquitoes? Really?
"Subway" and "Always" are forgettable. "Despair" is just boring.
"Area 52" started out good in the intro, but got boring towards the end. "Under the Earth" isn't bad, but it's far from good.
There are no words to fully describe "Sacrilege" and "Slave", but they are really good. However, the other two good songs on the album are much better than these two.
"Buried Alive" is the best song on the album. It's dark, creepy, mysterious... There's almost a sense of a roller coaster to it for some reason. It's just... wow.
"Wedding Song" is sweet. It could probably do well as some semi-slow song for some highschool prom or whatever, but it's still really, really sweet & good.
Sorry for the rant. I just was expecting a lot with this album.
