P.S.: Btw, she could have hit at least #2 with the old rules, that changed last August.

I agree that Britney getting to #3 was amazing. I was glad for her in a way, that at least something positive was starting to happen to her. But for her to gain her second #1 ever, her first being her debut single, would just be way too much of a fairytale. That VMA performance put her in a really bad position, and with radio-dominators like Kanye West, Timbaland, and, dare-I-say-it, Soulja Boy going up against her, I think #1 is just too high of an expectation.

"No One" takes big ***** on all of the top 3, including once great but now played tfo "Stronger".
However, **** **** **** Colbie Caillat. "Bubbly" is the most juvenile half assed excuse for a folky love song in a long time. Jewel needs to come back and show this bitch how it's done.
And the disposability of all these new (or breakout) artists is sickening me. I mean in one year we've had Mims, Yung Berg, Shop Boyz, Hurricane Chris, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Lil' Mama, Plain White T's and Colbie Caillat, all of whom I KNOW won't be relevant 12 months from now. Where are all the career artists nowadays?

Her VMAs peformance didn't hurt anything, in fact, it gave the single more buzz, hence she went to number one on iTunes. The bolded part in your post doesn't make sense at all, what's so "unbelievable" about it? considering this is already her highest charting single since her debut. But as Anthony said, her number one single would've been guranteed if she was there to promote. The single went to number 3 with the word of mouth promotion, imagine how would it have been if she was actually promoting AND charting by the old formula (50% digital downloads).
Anyways, I'm glad that she's still in the Top 10. Hopefully her downloads/airplay will increase by the release of the album.

^promotion wouldn't have given her a #1, not even if the chart rules were the same as they were before August. London Bitch, you're delusional, come on! Britney might've made it to the top 2 but there's just no way she would've made it past Soulja Boy to have another #1.

you make so many great points, i agree with you about every one of those singers/rappers. i can stand Colbie, Sean, and Berg a bit more than the rest, but still--you're right, these are all lame excuses for musicians. i would never support them by buying their music. i don't even understand what all the hoopla over Bubbly is all about...I think people just need something refreshing, innocent, devoid of anything mildly offensive, after this onslaught we've been having of pathetic hip-hop trash.

VMA didn't help her at all. It just added to the string of bad press. The song got to #1 on iTunes because people liked it. That's all.

With current chart rules, certain artists that get spins on a variety of stations have an advantage. As I said before, Kanye West, Timbaland and Soulja Boy fit into multiple formats, so for Britney to be as high as she got is quite remarkable, but #1 is just too high considering the competition.

Britney doesn't even need promotion. She's in the news everyday, and the media definitely mentions Gimme More and Blackout. Should she have performed the single more? Yes. Could she? That's harder, considering custody battles, drug tests, and the whole lot of it.

i think the only reason why... these artist even reach the top is only b/c everyone knows their albums suck... that they are one hit wonders... i mean people do use their heads and know that buying an entire album that has only 1 decent song is pointless...therefore they go ahead and just buy the single... that is why these artists that were mentioned had very low album sales overall... i mean i doubt anyone bought an album from Hurricane Chris..wtf... and since digital downloads make a large part on the hot 100 that is why they reach so high...
