It might boost her popularity overall, though, and help her radio performance, streaming, and touring. In that respect it could be an even better business move than a regular release. She'd have to keep doing new albums every 1.5 to 2 years, though, to keep that sort of irregular business model working.
Does anyone know how Jay Z's app went over? I just did a quick Google search and all I can find are concerns about privacy I hope there is no backlash with Gaga's app, either for "copying others" (even though she already 100% acknowledged past app albums) or for privacy issues.
The way I see it, they'll have the album up for stream on the app so everyone can hear it for free and then actually buy it if they like it. Win/win situation, and it would be easy marketing. It's all speculation at this point, so whatever. I know the album itself won't be free though

I think someday they're going to have to work something out... it'll happen very slowly (as far as I know, Radiohead is the only major act to offer an album 100% free) but I could eventually see more and more artists offering their music totally for free. They barely make any money from sales or streaming anyways. Someone like Gaga can tour once and be secure (monetarily) for life
