I'm literally praying for his parents. No matter the verdict, these parents lost their son and he will never be back. I'm cringing typing this because it seems everything else is overshadowing the parents. I can't even begin to understand what they're going through.

You mean to tell me that, if you were being followed (and I mean followed as in "he's following you and you alone, tracking your every move") by a large man with a crewcut, you wouldn't feel, at the very least, a little threatened? Because I sure as hell would feel at least a LITTLE threatened by that scenario.
Neither of us know for sure, I will readily admit this, but, if you ask me, given what we know about Trayvon Martin and his lack of a criminal record and good academic record, I somehow doubt that he would have attacked Zimmerman unprovoked.

People are trying to argue about this the wrong way. I understand where people are coming from with the racism that still exists in the present which shouldn't happen, but labeling people who try to explain things logically are racists is extremely rude and hypocritical. Having an opinion does not make that opinion exempt from criticism.
Playing devil's advocate here, but many legal experts were predicting this verdict. Here's one such article.
You have to understand that the burden of proof was on the prosecution. The jury did not have to believe Zimmerman's account of the story, they only had to have a reasonable doubt with regards to the prosecution's case that Zimmerman could not have been acting in self-defense. The jury could even believe (and probably did) that Zimmerman was racially profiling Martin when he was following him and still find reasonable doubt.
I think before people start charging the jury as racist, they should remember that the jury has very strict guidelines on how they must reach a verdict and what evidence they need to use. There have been many cases where jurors had a personal opinion that the defendant was guilty but voted not guilty because they had to look at the case in a judicial sense and found reasonable doubt.
At the end of the day, this was a very hard case for the prosecution to prove legally.
I highly doubt that the verdict would've been any different even if a videotape proving that Zimmerman was without a doubt the instigator surfaced.
