Video Games: Microsoft to pay Sony royalties for evry Xbone Bluray drive!

While a couple dollars doesn't seem like much, you need to keep in mind that Microsoft will be selling millions of Xbox Ones over the span of it's lifetime. Pachter estimates that it will be somewhere between $150 and $250 million. "Not enough to actually move the needle, but it will help their profitability," he commented.

So Xbox fanboys can breathe a sigh of relief, Microsoft isn't giving that much money to license a Blu-Ray drive, and now Xbox users get all of the benefits that come with it.

Sony won't really get much royalties when the other is going to sell like a 90 year old prostitute anyway.

And even if it were true, I suppose it'll help them break even one decade from now seeing as they're selling the PS4 for such a loss (and they've only JUST started making profit).

Sony made enough money through the PlayStation 1 & 2 too afford to make a console at a loss. And with all the online accounts etc. Sony weren't making money off the consoles, but they were making millions from the PlayStation 3 brand.

Amazon did the same with their Kindle Fire being sold at $200 because they make the money back from what they lose through online sales. Sony were comfortable at selling at a loss because they were in the financial state to do so.

It's a shame for Xbox fans though, because Microsoft isn't in the financial state to sell at a loss which is why the Xbox fans are going to have to pay more for a console because Microsoft obviously don't have the confidence to take a gamble.

But really, if Xbox One somehow manages to replicate the success of the Xbox One, Microsoft will have given Sony anywhere from $140-210 MILLION dollars if this article is valid.

A few dollars can go a long way.

Not Sony profiting over 100M+ from it's competitor.
