I know I'm a late queen with this, but I don't care.
That racism thread was really illuminating. I have always wondered how white people justified things like reverse racism and using the word *****. It seems they have a "they can so why can't I?" mentality. And it's really sad. They clearly either aren't aware of the centuries of oppression that racial minorities have faced or the way that racism affects racial minorities on a scale that white people have NEVER experienced. Basically, it's what happens when white people don't realize how powerful white privilege is.
And is it ME, or is racism really becoming an even more obvious problem than norman this summer? And I don't just mean on ATRL. With the Paula Dean mess, the Trayvon Martin trial, and the repealing of a section of the Voters Rights act of 1965, it's clear that racism still exists, but there are people out there that STILL try to deny it's impact.
