Mel B officially banned from Australia's Got Talent
Quote:
Seven has won the case to prevent Melanie Brown from joining Australia’s Got Talent on Nine this year.
The Sydney Supreme Court handed down its decision this morning.
Justice David Hammerschlag doubted Brown’s husband and manager Stephen Belafonte as a reliable witness saying he was evasive and unclear and gave inconsistent evidence.
“He displayed a propensity to say inaccurate things on the spur of the moment,” he said.
He found Seven remained “keen and willing” to work with Brown but the “problem is with Mel”.
He found she had an obligation to work with Seven.
“I see no reason why she should not be ordered to keep her word that she would not work for anyone but Seven in Australia in 2013.”
A hearing for costs will take place later.
Neither Melanie Brown nor Belafonte attended the court this morning.
In a statement Seven said, “Seven Network welcomes the decision of the court upholding its contract with Mel B and preventing her working for a competitor in breach of contract in 2013.”
There is speculation Nine will announce Geri Halliwell as a likely replacement for the show, due to air later this year.
Dannii confirmed that's she's joining X Factor Australia on Twitter and Tumblr. RedFoo is not official yet, but auditions start this months, and there's no other name being thrown around, so I can't see anyone else joining.
