I really don't get this argument. The Mayan calender is a set of thousands of days for each period, with today coinciding with the end of the last period. Why would leap years would change how many days have passed since the calender was created? I could maybe understand the archeologists miscounting, but it has nothing to do with the Mayans not counting them.
.... Can't believe I just argued in favour of the world ending.

It ain't happening and it has nothing to do with leap days, it's just the whole 'future being impossible to predict' thing, and even if they did predict the future we're ignoring the fact that they found a continuation of the Calender in the last couple of years which extends the Mayan timeline way off into the future.
