I don't think so. One Direction were one of the biggest acts on Earth this year and they got paid dust.
I mean I think they do throw a few big names in there just for the sake of it, and being a bigger known artist is probably an advantage, but not to an unfair point. If anything it's also an advantage to be less-known because that way the voters have no pre-conceived notions about them or their music.
