Which do you think is a bigger issue to society: homophobia or racism, and why?
I know this will be a controversial thread, but as long as people keep serious can it please be kept open because I think it is important and I'm genuinely interested in people's views.
EDIT: Okay so I didn't explain properly. I don't mean which one is worse, because obviously they are equally bad. I am asking which one is a more common problem in society.
Both are discrimination ..... both are big problems.
IMO discrimination will always exist ... if is not becuase of your sexual orientantion or race... it will be because you are poor, or becuase you are fat, or because your politic condition, etc.
All ignorancebased discrimination affect some people and regions more (inclu. Xenophobia, Classism, and so on). It should all be treated with equal importance, but obviously other forms will take priority over others in some cases due to its severity and scope of impact.
You can't quantify racism or homophobia, but I don't think they are really "equal"--just different. I voted racism because I think many people don't realize that just because racism rarely occurs on an individual level (like with racial slurs or outright discrimination), it definitely occurs on a societal and institutional level, which often gets overlooked nowadays.
Homophobia may seem more salient today because gay rights and bullying are political and social issues at the forefront right now, but just because minorities aren't being lynched left and right doesn't mean racism doesn't exist or has lessened.
