The voice of a generation must be someone who has seen a lot, been through a lot, and even after all the struggle, managed to stand.
So I actually think that Xtina is a voice of a generation, the voice of our generation.
How many of us grew up on her music?
How many of us grew up on seeing her getting bashed for being "too" irreverent?
How many of us saw her getting her divorce, getting fat, saw her album flop?
And how many of us saw her rise from the ashes time and time again?

If "voice of a generation" is about a technically better voice. GP (General Public) like Adele for only bringing her voice to an arena, no bells and whistles.

If "voice of a generation" has a historical meaning or it is the voice that represents an generation or the people of a nation in a certain age/era.

Gaga's fans constitute part of the movement that Gaga symbolizes, it's not that complicated. Her fans aren't all gay and her message expands past the LGBT community. Christina never emphasized self-empowerment as strongly as Gaga, the one thing she has going for her is "Beautiful" and that quite simply is not enough.
