They promote their album at Starbucks, sell it for 99 cents, release a remix version of almost every single, getting overexposed performing everywhere as possible, etc..
GaGa is actually smart and creative with her promo. Katy just puts out discounts and has lazy remixes made. GaGa's SRCH contest with Starbucks was awesome to play, I got one of her Polaroid printers and a $40 Starbucks gift card for free and GaGa doing performances is what an artist SHOULD do, so it's not really a bad thing...
