And how many places around the world have you actually visited or you're knowledgeable about to determine how global a pop star is?
You follow charts and trends in US, maybe the UK and your own country. Where else? Moreover, Shakira is hardly "irrelevant" in English-speaking countries. People definitely know who she is in the US and she's not even active in the states.
