1. TOO MANY reality shows. Obviously back in the early 90's The Real World existed and everything was still fine. Even in the early 2000's there was room raiders and those shows. Those were fine. MTV began to focus too much on reality tv and now a majority of their shows are reality. There isn't a balance between reality shows and music shows.
2. Cancelling TRL. I actually think people do want to see music shows. Even if it's not straight up music videos, having reality shows /about/ music would suffice. Where is making the video? MTV diary? I'd like to see those shows again. Reality shows about musicians. Not random nobody's like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom.
3. Youtube a little bit. Obviously, people can go to youtube to see music videos now rather then staying perched in front of their TV waiting for their favorite videos to come on. Youtube was only created in 2005 I believe and didn't get big till a couple years later so before that (less then 10 years ago) TV was still the go to for music videos.
i dont have time to read through 5 pages because i just CBA. but i'd name the real world as the main culprit. specifically the season fron 2002 when they were in las vegas. i remember seeing so many specials about how it broke records and barriers and such. i cant remember many reality tv showson MTV from more than 10 years ago other than real world and road rules. once TRW became such a huge success, so many reality shows started being produced. then TRL was like the only main music show...
They started cutting the amount of time a video would play on the countdown and TRL became more and more about talking to fans outside and other random things and the videos themselves just got pushed aside. But it got worse when they started all the reality shows. It was fine when it was Real World and Road Rules, but they pushed it too far. Plus, YouTube became more relevant and that added to it as well.
