And AGAIN, it is a song title. Jay and Kanye would not have named their song "****** in Paris" if they didn't want their friends and fans to say the word, regardless of race. End of; it's not a big deal at all.

The bolded: And?
How old are you guys? Because I shouldn't be have to be talking about the politics of the n-word, its history, and why Black people can get a pass for using it, but other people of different ethnicities cannot. I really shouldn't.
Even when Katy Perry did a cover of the song, she didn't use the word "*****". She used the word "ninja" instead. It's pure entitlement to think that just because it's a title, it's cause for you to say it.

You're hot and bothered over her using the word when she never even did, so, yes, you do need to calm down. He didn't retweet it, he tweeted it in the first place.

I'm not hot and bothered. I just said the bitch got too comfortable, which she did. That's my opinion.

As far as I know, she wasn't retweeting anything. Not from the stories I've read. Even so, there's no need for her to retweet that. It's funny how people will defend white people and non black people to the ground so they can feel better about "indirectly" using it on the sly, so that they won't be called out for it. Still say that she got to comfortable.

She didn't even retweet it... The Dream typed it and sent it from her phone on her Twitter account. She didn't even know about it...

Okay, then, I actually checked that out. If it is true he wrote it, then she's learned a lesson to not let that ****er touch her phone and get her caught up in **** storms.

His? I may act like an extra dramatic Karl Lagerfeld, but I'm all estrogen. And telling me to calm down is patronizing.

Gwyneth did not retweet it. The-Dream picked up her phone, typed out "****** in Paris for real!" and pressed send. She had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it.
Get it now?

I already straightened that story out with what's his name, so you can be condescending another time.
But go ahead and gloat. Gotta give you battered queens something to cry about.

Not really. Oppressed people have always taken written slurs that are offensive and used it in the communities to subvert the offensive power of the word. Gays often do it with the word f.a.g and d.y.k.e. Blacks do it with the word n.i.g.g.a. These are attempts to reclaim and subvert the meaning of it by playing with language. It wouldn't work with people outside of those communities. But this is a pop board and an apolitical one at that, so explaining this to you and people who have no deeper consciousness of that is pointless.

Um, yes it is delusional logic. The fact that you think that only blacks are free to use the "n" word does not only set up a double standard, but it's hypocritical at best. This also applies the the gays, and whatever group that have been historically oppressed by their majority.
The difference is that these attempts to alter the meaning of its pejorative roots DO NOT have any meaning to this day, since racial prejudices are generally looked down upon. Therefore, do not expect someone to take you seriously when you mouth out "n.i.g.g.a", but get offended when someone of another race does.
Nice try, though.

TBH I have no idea what you're talking about anymore. I give up.

People are doing the most. Why not blame the artist themselves. They're obviously not doing much to avoid such ignorance. Let's be real she was not the first white bitch on Twitter, and she certaintly won't be the last. Not saying it's OK, but you can't possibly name a song like that and not expect thousands of ignorant people to feel like it's not cool to use the term.
I blame the artist, and the record company to even allow such a mess of a title to be part of the official tracklist. #BOOM
|
But they're doing it in an attempt to assimilate and encourage tolerance, by desensitizing people to the word. They're not promoting ignorance, they're trying to promote acceptance and equality. And judging by the way the song has taken off, I'd say they've been very successful in doing that.

*shrugs* Again, I don't see what your beef is or why you are so gung ho about it being hypocritical, since most black people realistically won't give a **** whether or not you think it's a double standard. N.i.g.g.a. in the Black community is also used as a term of camaraderie and denotes an understanding of shared sense of racial oppression. It wouldn't logically make sense for someone who is non Black to use this term when they have no concept of experience injustice as an African American. It's easy to see why we can use the word for camaraderie purposes whereas non African Americans cannot when looking at it from this frame of reference. And unless you're Black, you really don't have a place to be commenting on it at all because it's an inner community issue. This is why I say that I don't think a lot of people here have an understanding of how community social politics work.
And of course a person has every right to get offended if they so choose, based on the reasoning I just gave. And the argument that other people will use it freely because African Americans do so and therefore shouldn't say it isn't much of a convincing argument, either. So your point is falling on deaf ears.
